(Call it men's fiction, action-adventure, military thriller or even a war novel...but Hell and Gone is not about Iraq or Afghanistan.)

The next few pages introduce the characters in Hell and Gone (a handfull per page). Simply click "continue" at the bottom to read about the next few.

Dwight "Rocco" Cavarra

"Forget the dumb stuff and stow the 'yes sir, no sir, three bags full' garbage."
Once a maverick SEAL team skipper, he now owns and operates a tactical shooting school, and sells ammunition and paramilitary equipment to suplement his income. He keeps in shape, dives and swims regularly, as well as maintaining fluency in his languages (Arabic, Hebrew and Italian), because he nurses a fantasy of going back into action again. Since the attack on the Twin Towers, that fantasy doesn't seem so farfetched.
A no-BS commander who leads from the front. He gives his men room for initiative, is willing to entertain their ideas when the mission permits, but holds them accountable for bad decisions.
Handling a dozen pseudo-mercenaries with no support structure is a new challenge for him, but he's just the masochist...er, man for the job.

Bassam Amin

"First Friday, then Saturday, then Sunday."
A 15 year-old Palastinian orphan, raised in the camps by the PLO. He knows the fat, rich Jews must be pushed into the sea, but his raging hormones are a stronger influence than the teaching of the holy men, right now.
He's never known anything but hunger and cruelty. Sure, he'll martyr himself in jihad, if it guarantees him full-bosomed virgins in paradise. But he'll be an unstoppable kamikaze if Khaled Ali lets him sample some full bosoms now, in this life.

Bobbie Yousko

"We know who has the bomb, and we know the target. We only have a few days before the Israelis take matters into their own hands."
"B.Y." to her boss at the CIA. She takes her job seriously, and since 9/11 has obsessed over preemptive action as a way to neutralize threats to the United States. Cooperates and communicates with her peers in an environment where nobody can afford to fully trust anyone else. Intuitive, proactive, and willing to risk her career if necessary...unlike her superiors.
She and her colleagues have a plan, and a list of warriors-for-hire to implement it. It's a long shot with too many question marks, but nobody in the Pentagon is willing to initiate a better course of action.

Khaled Ali

"None of my martyrs lack motivation."
A Fedayeen veteran with no conventional military experience, but some combat in Lebanon and the "West Bank." He now runs a training camp in the Hala'ib Triangle (between Egypt and the Sudan) where his holy warriors are taught the tactics they'll need to wage jihad on Jews, Americans and other infidels.
Ali has seen and smelled death, mutilation and many things a weakling couldn't bear to think about, all without blinking. He's been blessed with the gift of a tactical nuclear weapon, and honored with the priviledge of striking a mighty blow against the enemies of Islam.

Ehud Siyr

"When it comes to self-hatred, Americans rank right up there with the Jews."
An African mercenary who is more than meets the eye. His chameleon-like ability to blend into his social environment allows him to sneak away and back again almost unnoticed. Almost.
His merc resume reads like a tour guide of African and Middle Eastern trouble spots. And he handles himself like an old pro in a firefight. Still, one can't help wondering where his true loyalties lie.
